PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
