Just as the recent storm swept through the north-west the prior day, City swept the visitors away at the Etihad. It was a statement three goal triumph for their manager's side due to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their place at the league summit.

This outcome marked consecutive league losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the top team with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.
