The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
